The new state standard establishes requirements for the construction, key dimensions, materials, technical specifications, marking, packaging, and storage of the kamancha and other string instruments belonging to the kamancha family.

The Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), a public legal entity operating under the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has adopted a new state standard, AZS 1005:2026 — “National String Musical Instruments — Kamancha and Kamancha Family — Technical Specifications.”

The standard aims to establish uniform technical and quality requirements for kamancha and kamancha-family instruments intended for solo, ensemble, orchestral, and educational use, thereby providing a common framework for their production, craftsmanship, and quality assessment.

The draft state standard was adopted based on a proposal submitted by the Technical Committee for Standardization on “Azerbaijani Folk Musical Instruments” (AZSTAND/TC 44), established under AZSTAND on the basis of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Following its adoption, the standard was included in the State Fund of Normative Documents on Standardization.
