Meeting Held at the State Agency with the Secretary-General of the International Electrotechnical Commission

The meeting addressed issues related to ensuring access to IEC standards, expanding their application, and studying international best practices.

A meeting was held at the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan with a delegation headed by Philippe Metzger, Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

During the meeting, Elnur Baghirov, Chairman of the State Agency, provided information on the measures being implemented to develop the national standardization system and on future objectives. The importance of expanding electrotechnical standardization activities within the framework of Azerbaijan’s associate membership in the IEC, as well as of accelerating the integration of international standards in the fields of electrical, electronic and related technologies, was also emphasized.

For his part, Philippe Metzger shared his views on strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan and developing new partnerships in electrotechnology, energy, digital technologies, artificial intelligence and other innovative areas.

The discussions also covered the development of quality infrastructure, the implementation of IEC standards, the study of best practices, opportunities for participation in the relevant IEC technical committees, and increasing Azerbaijan’s role in international standardization activities.

Note: The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a leading global organization in the field of electrotechnology. Through its network covering nearly 170 countries and bringing together more than 30,000 international experts, the IEC develops and administers international standards and conformity assessment systems for electrical and electronic products, as well as related services. In 2025, the National Electrotechnical Committee was established under the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), which operates under the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. As of 1 January 2026, Azerbaijan’s associate membership in the IEC was confirmed.
