Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control Agency and the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency Sign Joint Action Plan

The Joint Action Plan provides for strengthening cooperation between the parties in the fields of competition policy and consumer protection, expanding the exchange of experience, and further developing bilateral engagement.

A delegation led by Tural Ismayilov, Head of Administration of the Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (the Agency), paid a working visit to Georgia. As part of the visit, the delegation participated in the Fourth International Conference on “Competition and Consumer Protection”, held in Tbilisi.

Over the three-day conference, presentations were delivered and panel discussions held on the role of competition policy in ensuring sustainable economic development, global approaches to regulating the competitive environment, and current trends and challenges in consumer protection.

Shahla Eyvazzada, an employee of the Agency’s Legal Division, spoke at a panel discussion entitled “Competition Policy in Regulated Sectors: Challenges and Opportunities”. She provided information on fostering competition in regulated markets, protecting consumer rights, and the legal and institutional mechanisms applied in these areas.

The panel discussions also covered the role of international organisations in consumer protection; the activities of regulatory authorities, non-governmental organisations and civil society institutions in this field; awareness-raising on consumer rights; and global mechanisms used to achieve sustainable development. Participants exchanged views and delivered presentations on these topics.

As part of the event, the Agency and the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency signed a Joint Action Plan. The document provides for strengthening cooperation between the two institutions in the fields of competition policy and consumer protection, expanding the exchange of experience, and further developing bilateral engagement.
